ABOUT

About the Centre:

The Alive Child and Family Counselling Centre (previously known as The Therapeutic Clinic), was established on May 1st, 2011. We seek to address the growing psychological and mental health needs in Trinidad and Tobago, using a holistic therapeutic approach. Our multi-disciplined team of clinical professionals have more than forty (40) years of combined experience, and they are dedicated to offering the highest standard of service to ensure that these needs are met.

About the blog:

Why write a blog? There are so many websites out there that have information on psychology and mental health and they often all have the same information and no special appeal. We hope that by writing with a specific focus on the Caribbean's psychological climate that we can not only gain the interest of people unfamiliar with psychology, but also share a unique regional perspective on mental illness in the West Indies.

The blog also allows us to keep things organised. We have all of our posts in one place, instead of scattered along our Facebook page. You can search through our tag list to quickly find posts relevant to your interests. You can also leave anonymous comments on the blog, which allows the freedom to ask questions that you might be unwilling to attach your name to.

About the series:

Tuesday Talks is a series aimed at discussing mental health in the Caribbean, with a focus on Trinidad and Tobago. The Alive Child and Family Centre hopes that through these posts, people can get a better understanding of what mental health and mental illness is, and that cultural taboos and stereotypes in the Caribbean region can begin to change as we strive towards developing a more accurate psychological perspective.

Fact Friday is a series similar to Tuesday Talks, but it focuses on dispelling myths surrounding psychology and mental health. Look out for these quick but interesting posts! You might be surprised to discover what is fact and what is fiction!
