It's the holiday season and 2013 is drawing to a close. This Tuesday Talks post is going to be our last post on the blog for the year and we wanted to leave you with a little insight into forgiveness.

The new year is always associated with resolutions. The usual list is made up of promises to lose weight or spend less. Sometimes people make resolutions that regard changing an aspect about themselves, such as a promise to be more charitable or more spiritual. Have you ever considered, however, making a resolution to forgive?

Fact Friday: We Use 100% of Our Brains

There are a lot of myths about psychology, but none of them are as popular as the idea that people only use 10% of their brains. Although it's nice to think that humans have the capacity to be 90% better, the truth is that we use 100% of our functional brain capacity, although not always at the same time.

Depression is perhaps the most common of all mental health problems. It affects approximately 5% of the Caribbean and Latin American population. At a seminar on depression in the workplace, Dr. Fuad Khan spoke about the need to reduce stigma when dealing with challenges like depression, which can have a profound effect on multiple areas of a person's life.

Tuesday Talks is a series aimed at discussing mental health in the Caribbean, with a focus on Trinidad and Tobago. The Alive Child and Family Counselling Centre hopes that through these posts, people can get a better understanding of what mental health and mental illness is, and that cultural taboos and stereotypes in the Caribbean region can begin to change as we strive towards developing a more accurate psychological perspective.

To begin this series, our first topic is stigma.
